On Page SEO for WooCommerce

Let's dive into on page SEO for your WooCommerce site! This SEO guide will help you optimize your WooCommerce SEO in no time.

You’re going to be learning what’s called ‘on page SEO’ which I like to call the meat & potatoes of SEO. It’s a great place to start because you are completely in control, it requires no technical knowledge and it’s fast and cheap (practically free).

What is on page SEO

On Page SEO is exactly what it sounds like - implementing search engine optimisation techniques on your web pages. It’s everything that’s happening on your site - content, code, elements.

What are some of the on-page elements you can optimise? (Don’t let this list overwhelm you, POP makes this easy, even for a beginner)

  • Meta Title
  • Meta Description
  • Headings and subheadings H1-H6
  • URL slug
  • Image optimization
  • Keywords
  • Content aligned with Search Intent
  • Internal Links
  • UX and UI
  • Website speed
  • Mobile friendliness and mobile-first approach
  • Accessibility
  • Canonical tags
  • Schema implementation

What on page SEO is not?

Everything that you do off your pages - duh. That includes link building, PR, social media, citations, reputation management, and more.

On page SEO isn’t about black hat practices or keyword stuffing. For WooCommerce sites, on page SEO isn't ignoring valuable meta descriptions or forgetting to create unique product descriptions. SEO isn't about misleading search engines or using unethical techniques – it's about following best practices. WooCommerce SEO isn't just about adding keywords like "WooCommerce" everywhere. Instead, it’s about ensuring your content is relevant and optimized. It’s not about shortcuts; it’s about building a solid foundation.

That doesn’t mean you should only do On Page, and forget about link building. On page is a great foundation, mainly because it’s totally within your control.

"POP is a game changer"

"POP is a game changer. We use it for developing great content for our client's websites. The ability to demonstrate to potential clients what changes are needed on their pages is a great sales tool. We have used POP on our own web pages to bolster our SERP."

What you’ll need to SEO your WooCommerce website?

To SEO your WooCommerce website, you'll need some essential tools and strategies:

  • A website built on WooCommerce (If you don’t have this, click here to browse their products)
  • An idea of which page you first want to SEO on your website (if you dont know, choose the home page or a product / service page)
  • An idea of the perfect ‘keyword’ or phrase for this page (for what Google search do you want this page to appear?)
  • A subscription to POP (PageOptimizer.pro). (click here to browse plans, any plan is suitable)
  • Downloaded POP Chrome Extension
  • A spare 30 minutes.

WooCommerce & POP

In this tutorial, you will be using a combination of both WooCommerce and POP to do your SEO.

When it comes to optimizing your WooCommerce site, PageOptimizer PRO (POP) is the go-to SEO tool for ensuring your WooCommerce website is search engine ready.

What is POP?

POP is an incredibly valuable on page SEO tool, perfect for beginners. And it works perfectly with WooCommerce. POP takes the guesswork out of creating web pages for search engines such as Google.

So, if you wanna make your WooCommerce site soar on search engines, POP is definitely what you need. Give your WooCommerce the SEO boost it deserves!

Just input the ‘keyword’ or phrase you want to rank and let POP create an easy to follow SEO plan for your WooCommerce website, but I’ll be showing you the step-by-step.

Why use POP?

Wondering why you should use PageOptimizer PRO (POP) for your WooCommerce site?

⚠️You do not HAVE to use POP for your on page SEO. But in my opinion, you should.

Why? POP uses an advanced algorithm to calculate precisely what the winning competitor pages in Google are doing to win their on page SEO and get top Google rankings.

POP will score your page out of 100, against your top Google competitors and then create a perfect content ‘recipe’ for your page.

It will then help you create or update the page content in a best-practice, SEO manner.

If you use POP and follow the instructions it is almost guaranteed you will start to see an increase in impressions, ranking keywords and traffic to the page within a few weeks.

If you do not want to use POP, I would advise you to place your ‘keyword’ or phrase into the H1 and the Title of the page and preferably in the URL too. I call this the ‘quick & dirty SEO method’. However, this is a bare minimum approach, it’s not scientific and I can not guarantee it will help your traffic.

"Super motivating!"

"My website is just a couple of months old, so it’s in the sandbox period. I had written an article about a phrase related to sales using memberships. The first attempt at the article was nowhere near the first 5 pages on Google; in fact, I could not find it at all though it had been indexed. I ran the article through POP and it had a score of 15%. I decided to rewrite the entire thing and scored 87%. Within two days of rendering, I found my article ranking #2 for the same phrase. This is super motivating!"

On-Page SEO Process Overview

When it comes to WooCommerce SEO, nailing the on-page SEO process is crucial.

There are 3 parts to the on-page optimization process.

  1. Score your page's SEO: Run your page through POP (5 minutes). This will score your page for SEO (out of 100) and provide a checklist of recommendations for you to update on your page to improve your SEO score.
  2. Optimize your content: You can then choose to follow the recommended page updates manually (approx. 1 hour), or with POP AI (approx. 15 minutes). The process is basically the same, just the AI will do the work for you if you choose POP AI.
  3. Add your optimized content to your website: (10 minutes) If you created your SEO content in POP AI, you will need to transfer that content in to your WooCommerce website using your web editor.

And walah! SEO perfection in 30 minutes.

1. Score your page's SEO using POP

Login to your WooCommerce

Login and navigate through to the page you want to SEO. Note: Please login to your web builder using Google Chrome.

Choose a keyword for your page

If you have not done so already, choose a keyword for your page. Let’s say I have a recipe site, I might be optimizing for my ‘Orange Chicken’ recipe, so the keyword I choose might be ‘Best Orange Chicken Recipe’

Now to Run POP on Your Page

Login to POP & select 'On Page Optimization'.

Type in the main keyword you want the page to rank for. You can also add up to 3 other related keywords if you wish.

Select the language and choose a specific region where you want the page to rank.

  • Enter the URL of the page you want to optimize.
  • Give your page a name that will be visible in the Page Folder (keyword is a good idea).
  • Select “Next” and you’ll soon get your Content Brief Optimization Score.
  • Feel free to browse through the Content Brief section to check out all the SEO tips for the page you want to rank.

And there you have it! Your POP Page Report!

PS: If you need additional help, you can also checkout how to generate your first POP report with a Chrome Extension from our help center.

2. Step-by-step video tutorial on WooCommerce SEO with POP

  • Open the POP report you created in the previous tutorial.
  • Click over AI Writer and click “Start”.
  • You have 3 options to choose from when it comes to content generation - POP AI Writer can optimize and rewrite the currently written word count (page length), it can create new, optimized content for the target word count (recommended), or you can select a custom word count.
  • There are 6 steps you need to complete to get to the AI Writer finish line.
  • Select the target word count and then click “Next”.
  • Now you’ll be in “Rich content” section where you can add suggestions for bold terms, italic terms, images, lists, forms, frequently asked questions, and table of contents. Add the quantity of the chosen components and click “Next”.
  • Now you can choose your competitors that AI will use as inspiration for writing your optimized content.

Additionally, below the competitors, you can write the tone of your content, the author, and put your brand name in. Click “Next”.

  • In the Page title area you can choose if AI should rewrite your titles or not.
  • In our case, our “Orange Chicken Recipe” did not have a Page Title so we can’t use the first option ‘Use my title for AI inspiration’. We will choose competitors’ titles for AI inspiration. Click “Generate”.
  • Generate sub-headings (H2s and H3s) in the Sub-headings section. You can choose to keep them as is when working on a page that already has them.
  • We encourage you to adjust your H2 and H3 subheadings here until you are happy with them. These will form the outline for your page content.
  • In the Main content area you can choose AI to rewrite the existing text on your page or to let AI generate new original text. You can also supply POP AI with examples of the text you would like to see on your own page. You can for instance copy paragraphs from your own or a competitors site. POP AI will re-write them to make them original, and optimize the SEO at the same time.
  • Click “Generate Main Content”. This step takes less than 5 minutes.
  • Now you can ‘Check the Optimization Score’. You should see the score improve to close to 100. This means your page is now SEO optimized.
  • Download your optimized content piece. You have 4 options: Plain text, html.txt, .html, and docx.

You can also see an in-depth step-by-step tutorial on using the POP AI writer here in our help center.

3. Add your POP optimized content from POP into your WooCommerce page

Now it's time to add your POP optimized content right into your WooCommerce page.

There are multiple ways to transfer your content from POP AI to your WooCommerce page. The first way is to open the AI Writer, download the article and transfer it to your site - just follow the previous step above.

The second way is to download your content as plain .txt or html.txt. Here’s how to do it:

  • Download .html from POP AI Writer to cover all the bases since you can open these documents as a local host in your Chrome browser.
  • Once downloaded, this is how it would look like opened in local host. Here you can check how your paragraphs, strong tags, headings and other types of rich content will appear.
  • If WooCommerce allows access to the html backend, you can copy-paste the html directly.

  • The easier way for most people is to just copy and paste the text directly from the browser into your editor in WooCommerce.

4. Check the content using the POP Chrome Extension

After optimizing your WooCommerce site, it's crucial to verify the content using the POP Chrome Extension. As a final check we want to ensure that the amazing SEO you did inside the POP AI is reflecting on your actual web page.

POP Chrome Extension. Download for free here (1 minute) Download POP Chrome Extension.

  • Ensure you have the WooCommerce editor open on the page you are working on.
  • Copy the secret key for the report run inside POP / or log into your POP account with your credentials.
  • Select the page run from the Page runs list that matches your editor.
  • Choose where you’re editing - the website editor for the page or Google docs.
  • If you’re using your website editor (which you should be), click Start now on the POP Chrome Extension and the extension will do its thing and report back to you with your Optimization Score.
  • This should show the same score as you saw within the POP AI earlier.

And boom! You should now have your first POP SEO optimized page using WooCommerce

WooCommerce optimization isn't rocket science when you've got PageOptimizer PRO. This tool is perfect for getting your WooCommerce SEO right.

Now repeat this process for each important page on your website to maximize the chance of growing your SEO traffic and turning that traffic into customers!

Bonus 2: Setup SEO Alerts using POP Watchdog

Stay ahead with SEO for WooCommerce by setting up alerts using the powerful POP Watchdog.

What is POP Watchdog?

POP Watchdog is a unique POP feature that will monitor your pages and alert you when something has changed due to modifications made by competitors or because of a Google update.

Why is it important to set it up?

SEO is an ongoing process, and your competitors don’t rest. When you optimize a webpage, it doesn't guarantee long-term optimization. This is where Watchdog steps in. After configuring it for a critical page, like a key revenue-generating page, Watchdog keeps an eye on it.

You can schedule when you want to be updated - every week, every month. Watchdog will then let you know via email if there’s work for you to do.

How to set it up?
